CNC Turning

Precision Turned Parts for Any Application

CNC turning is the process of rotating a workpiece against a stationary cutting tool to create cylindrical features: outer diameters, inner bores, threads, grooves, tapers, and profiles. It's the right process for shafts, bushings, spacers, pins, fittings, flanges, and any component built around a round center axis.

At Nitro Custom Works, we run both CNC and manual lathes, giving us flexibility across part sizes and complexity levels. Complex parts requiring multiple diameters, undercuts, threads, and grooves in a single setup are handled efficiently on our CNC lathe. Simpler one-off parts are often faster to run manually.

We serve industrial customers, automotive builders, engineers, and individuals throughout South Jersey — Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem Counties — and the Philadelphia metro area. No minimum order quantity, and we quote promptly when you send us your part drawing.

FAQ

CNC Turning — Frequently Asked Questions

CNC turning is a machining process where the workpiece rotates while a stationary cutting tool removes material to create cylindrical parts. It produces shafts, pins, bushings, spacers, flanges, and other round or tubular components with precise outer diameters, inner bores, threading, and groove features — all controlled by a computer program for repeatable precision.
In CNC turning, the workpiece spins and the cutting tool is stationary — ideal for round, cylindrical parts. In CNC milling, the cutting tool rotates while the workpiece is stationary — best for flat surfaces, pockets, and complex profiles. Many parts require both operations; we handle the sequencing when that's the case.
Our turning capacity handles parts up to approximately 12 inches in diameter and 24 inches between centers for standard lathe work. If your part falls outside these dimensions, contact us with your specifications and we'll tell you whether we can accommodate it or help you find the right resource.
Yes. We cut both external (OD) and internal (ID) threads in standard and custom pitches — including UN, UNF, metric, and NPT pipe threads. Thread quality is verified with calibrated thread gauges to ensure correct fit on your mating parts.
Absolutely — there is no minimum order quantity for turned parts. One bushing, one shaft, one custom spacer. We'll quote it and make it right. Many of our customers are engineers or builders who need a single precise component that can't be bought off the shelf.
